What is Windfall?

Windfall is price-matching made easy. Our mobile application helps you save money after you shop. Many stores that you shop at everyday match lower prices at other retailers-- even giving you a refund if you can find a better price at a competitor. By scanning your receipts with Windfall, we can automatically check millions of prices and products and let you know when retailers owe you money.


What is price-matching?

Most retailers award cash refunds if you can prove that a competitor has lower prices. With Windfall, you’ll have the power of every price-matching policy in your back pocket. We find the best price, every time - making it SO simple for you to get your money back!


This sounds good. Do I have to pay for Windfall?

Nope. Windfall is currently completely free to download and free to use. (We really do love a good deal.)


How does it work?

1. Shop at any of our supported retailers, then simply scan your receipt with Windfall.

2. Get notified when we find lower prices in stores and online.

3. Claim your refund at customer service in your local store. Cha-ching!


How do I scan a receipt?

1. Get your receipt and lay it flat (try to get good lighting)

2. Open the app and select the retailer you just shopped at

3. Following the instructions on the screen, scan the barcode

4. Make sure the receipt edges are aligned within the frame

5. Hold your phone steady and slowly scan the entire receipt


Voila. Our mobile vision technology will digitize your receipt right in front of your eyes. Pretty cool, right?


When should I scan my receipt?

If possible, right after your purchase! Our patent-pending real-time receipt scanning technology was built to find you immediate savings. Claim your refund while you’re still in the store!


How do I get my refund?

Claim your refund at the customer service desk at your local store. Let them know that you found lower prices on items you bought. Open the Windfall app, and simply show them your receipt. After the customer service representative scans the barcode, they will need to review the products that changed in price. You'll see those products listed directly underneath the barcode in your saved receipt-- simply tap each product to show proof of lower price!


Do I need to save my original receipt?

Even though you’ve scanned the barcode—which the customer service rep will need to issue your refund—we recommend you hang on to your receipt for good measure.


How do e-Receipts work?

In order for us to track your e-receipts, all you have to do is link your email account in the app. Go to Settings, and tap “Learn More,” where you will be asked to login with the email address that you use to shop online. After this, our receipt fetching technology will automatically find your e-receipts and track the prices of the items you have purchased. We let you know when we find you a price match opportunity and let you know how to claim your refund! In most cases, this involves calling the retailer customer service phone number and giving them your order number and the item(s) that dropped, both of which we provide to you to make the process easy!


How are Amazon purchases tracked?

Just like e-Receipts (see How do e-Receipts work?), all you have to do is link your Amazon email account in the app. Go to Settings, and click “Learn More,” to link your email and Amazon accounts. We will automatically capture and monitor your Amazon purchases.


I had savings, but then the price changed. What happened?

Tracking prices can be a tricky because retailers change their prices constantly to compete with each other and offer exclusive deals. We do our best to track the price differences for you and let you know when you’re owed money, but we cannot control the prices that change at the discretion of the retailers.


You can tap on each product to see the most up-to-date price. This is all the proof you'll need to show the retailer the money they owe you!


Help! I’m having trouble scanning my receipt.

There are a few reasons you might be having trouble with your receipt. Our mobile vision technology is highly advanced and the only one of its kind that can intelligently digitize products from receipts. However, sometimes it can get stuck if the receipt has wrinkles, stripes or markings. We also might be missing a product from our database. Just send us a “Bad Scan” report and our engineers will look into it!


How long am I eligible for savings after my purchase?

Anywhere from 7 days to 30 days, depending on the retailer and time of the year. Check out the retailer policies below:

Do you have relationships with the retailers?

Not at all. Windfall operates completely independently from all retailers with the goal of helping you save as much money as possible! We have no affiliation with any of the retailers.


How will I find out if I’ve saved money?

We will let you know via push notification and/or email as soon as we detect a lower price!

If you find a current lower price within 14 days after purchase, just bring in the proof and we will adjust your payment to the lower price, upon request. Target store price matches and adjustments are completed at the store at Guest Services. For Target.com purchases, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.


Guidelines and limitations:

The item must be the identical item, brand name, size, weight, color, quantity and model number. It must be in stock at the time of Price Match.

Online competitor matches are limited to items sold and fulfilled by the select competitors listed here.

The actual price of an item must be identifiable and valid at the time of match. We reserve the right to verify a competitor’s advertised price and the availability of the item.

Please bring the entire printed ad, or show the online price or digital version of ad on your mobile device for proof of price. Original receipts or packing slips are required for price adjustments after purchase. Competitor catalogs can be matched as long as the price is identifiable and valid and all other price match criteria are met.

We match Target.com prices on in-store purchases and in-store prices for Target.com purchases. In-store price matches from other Target stores are excluded.

Price matches and adjustments will not be allowed for prices from Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving, whether offered by Target or a competitor.

Alaska and Hawaii Target stores are excluded from price matching online competitors.

No rainchecks will be issued for items out of stock at Target or Target.com. We do not price match competitors if they are out of stock.

Limit of one price match per identical item per guest for online competitor matches.


Guidelines and limitations:

Clearance, closeout, liquidation sales, damaged, used, open package, refurbished, pre-owned, or rent/lease to own items, storewide or unspecific offers, non-branded items, or prices that only display on a website after guests log in.

Pricing or typographical errors, limited time or quantity offers, daily deals, coupon offers, credit card offers, gift card offers, financing, service offers, bundled offers, sales tax promotions, free items, rebates or mail-in offers.

Contract mobile phone plans or devices, Optical, Target Portrait Studio and Clinic offers, Product services (warranties, assembly, etc.), or game reservations.

“Marketplace” prices and prices from third party sellers will not be honored.

Cartwheel offers and Target coupons cannot be combined with price match. Manufacturer coupons will be applied after a price match is made per Target’s coupon policy. Please review our Store Coupon Policy for additional details.

Items containing alcohol will be subject to state-by-state regulations.

How to match a Walmart.com price that has been reduced (rollback, special buy, clearance, etc.):


If an item previously purchased on Walmart.com is now listed at a lower price, and the item is within its eligible return window, contact Walmart.com Customer Care at 1.800.966.6546 to receive an adjustment for the price difference.


How to match a Walmart.com price to another online retailer*:

Prior to placing your order, contact Walmart.com Customer Care or call us at 1.800.966.6546. We will verify the item eligibility by reviewing the online retailer, their current price, and by confirming the item is in stock

Walmart.com has the final decision for matching an online price


How to match a Walmart in-store price to a Walmart.com or other retailer's online price:

Request the price match right at the register while shopping in-store.

The Store Manager has the final decision for matching an online price


The following are guidelines and limitations:

The item must be currently in-stock at the online retailer's website or on Walmart.com at the time of the price match request

The item must be sold and fulfilled by online retailers* listed below or by Walmart.com

We reserve the right to verify the price of the identical, in-stock item at the online retailer's website (i.e., size, model, quantity, brand, color)

We will limit quantities to one-per-customer, per item, per day**


We do not honor:

Prices from Marketplace and third-party sellers

Prices from auctions or requiring memberships

Prices that cannot be determined independent of other items, e.g., fees, shipping charges

Percent off or dollar off if the item's price cannot be determined independent of other items, fees, or charges

Bundle Offers, Instant Rebates, Mail-in Offers, Offers that include financing

Prices that require minimum quantity purchases

Items that other retailers have listed as Clearance, Close out, Liquidation, Special Hour/Flash/Limited Quantity offers

Damaged, Used, or Refurbished items

Misprinted or inaccurate prices

Online price match is not available in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico for in-store purchases

We will not offer rain-checks for items that are not currently in-stock in our stores or Walmart.com

Online price match is not available for Walmart One Hour Guarantee Items

Walmart.com will not price match on behalf of Walmart Marketplace Retailers to other online competitors or to Walmart.com

If you purchase an item from Staples and tell us within 14 days that you found that item at a lower price in our stores or at staples.com®, we’ll refund the difference.

For an in-store price match, please see an associate at our customer service desk. This policy is subject to change without notice.

We don’t price match competitors’ or our own local or special events (e.g., grand opening, anniversary, clearance, timed sales or liquidation sales, “Black Friday” or “Cyber Monday” sales).

The following products and services are excluded from our Price Match Guarantee: our Staples® EasyTechsm services, postage, gift and phone cards, and apps sold on the staples.com® App Center.

Also, we do not price match taxes, warranties, typographical errors, merchandise credits or contracted prices offered to Staples Advantage® customers.

When calculating a price match, we’ll deduct any available Staples coupons, Staples rebates (instant, easy or mail-in) and manufacturer rebates from the Staples price to arrive at a net price.

For example, if you buy an item from us for $100 and we offer a $20 instant rebate, the net price is $80. If another company’s price is $80 or more, we will not match the price.

Another example: If you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon, the net price is $129. If another company’s price is $125, your price match would be $4 off our net price of $129. Dollars-off coupons will be proportionally deducted from the prices of items in your order.

If you purchase an item from Staples and tell us within 14 days that you found that item at a lower price in our stores or at staples.com, we’ll refund the difference. To claim a price match, please see an associate at our customer service desk at your local store or call us at 800-333-3330.


Best Buy:

We'll match the product prices of key online and local competitors. At the time of sale, we price match all local retail competitors (including their online prices) and we price match products shipped from and sold by these major online retailers: Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com, Newegg.com, and TigerDirect.com. We match BestBuy.com prices on in-store purchases and in-store prices on BestBuy.com purchases. If we lower our price during the return and exchange period, we will match our lower price, upon request.

Our Price Match Guarantee covers one price match per identical item, per customer, at the current pre-tax price available to all customers.

Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover:

The online prices of retailers not listed. Contract mobile phones sold by any online retailer. Products shipped from or sold by third-party sellers (Marketplace sellers) on websites. Best Buy For Business transactions and BestBuy.com Marketplace items. Competitors' service prices, special daily or hourly sales. Any financing offers, bundle offers, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers, items that are advertised as limited quantity, out of stock items, clearance items, open-box items, refurbished items, pre-owned items, credit card offers, gift card offers, rent/lease to own items, and items for sale Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving, whether offered by Best Buy or a competitor.

Best Buy Retail Store: When making a purchase, or during the return and exchange period, please talk to a Customer Specialist or go to the Customer Service desk for help with your price match request. Please tell us about the lower price that is still in effect that you want the Best Buy retail store to price match. Best Buy will then review and verify the price match request.

BestBuy.com: When making a purchase, or during the return and exchange period, price match requests from BestBuy.com are handled via phone. Please call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) for a BestBuy.com price match request. Please tell us about the lower price that is still in effect that you want Best Buy to price match. Best Buy will then review and verify the price match request.

BestBuy.com price match requests cannot be completed in our stores or via e-mail. Shipping/delivery charges will not be included in the price comparison. Purchases from a Smartphone application/website, BestBuy.com orders with store pickup, and orders from the kiosk inside a Best Buy store are considered BestBuy.com purchases for purposes of the Price Match Guarantee. A price match request after a purchase from BestBuy.com can be requested either by the person to whom the product was shipped, or by the person who was billed for the purchase.


Office Depot:

Office Depot® and OfficeMax® stores and Officedepot.com will gladly match the price on a new identical item sold by any retailer who sells products in both retail stores and online under the same brand name. We will also match prices on items that are sold and shipped by Amazon.com and Reliable.com; provided, however that Marketplace products (i.e, products sold or shipped by a third party) sold through any eligible retailer are excluded. Please see below for more details on how it works. We include nearly all new items that are identical and in stock. Meaning, we will honor items with the same model number, features, and warranty that are in stock and available at the advertised price. For items sold with a service plan, such as wireless devices, the plan, provider, and associated terms must all be identical.

Our price is the final price you pay after any discounts, coupons, instant savings and mail-in savings are applied. We will match the other store’s point-of-sale price after deducting their instant savings/rebates and coupons. We will not match the other store’s mail-in rebates nor will we deduct the value of any gift with purchase.

In order to determine your item’s price match eligibility, we will need the price and model number of your item and confirmation by one of the following methods: printed advertisement, printed in-store signage, receipt of item purchased, picture of in-store signage or online offer from mobile device. Office Depot reserves the right to call the retailer’s store to confirm price. If you already made your purchase, show us the lower price within 14 days of your Office Depot or OfficeMax purchase and we will refund you the difference.

If you find a lower price on a new identical item at an Office Depot or OfficeMax store at the time of purchase or within 14 days of your purchase, show us the lower price and OfficeDepot.com will match the price or refund you the difference. If you find a lower price on a new identical item on OfficeDepot.com at the time of purchase or within 14 days of your purchase, show us the lower price and Office Depot or OfficeMax stores will match the price or refund you the difference. Our stores will not match prices from our catalogs, online-only specials, or prices offered to our contract customers. OfficeDepot.com and our call centers will not match prices offered to our contract customers or on our in-store only specials.

Price matches are limited to one (1) competitor price match per identical item per guest. Service plans, computer services, or other services which include delivery, copy and custom printing, installation and extended warranties are excluded.

Marketplace products, products sold by an eligible online retailer but shipped by a third party, are excluded.

Taxes, ad errors, closeouts, clearance, liquidation, out-of-stock items, free product offers, special orders, location specific offers, gift card offers, refurbished items, and holiday sales offers including during Black Friday and Cyber Monday (Office Depot, OfficeMax or any eligible retailer) are also excluded from this guarantee.

We reserve the right to modify or cancel the Price Match Guarantee at any time without prior notice. Any modification will be effective immediately upon posting of the modified Price Match Policy Terms and Conditions on OfficeDepot.com. We reserve the right to verify the authenticity of any offer we are asked to price match.

Amazon.com consistently works toward maintaining competitive prices on everything we carry and will match the price of other retailers for some items. Amazon.com will price match eligible purchases of televisions and cell phones with select other retailers, including those who sell their items on our website. For all other items, Amazon.com doesn't offer price matching. Price adjustment excludes items sold by an Amazon 3rd party.
